peculiar skills vs specific skills

Hello,

This is a line from one of my students' presentations:
To be a great specialist, you should have peculiar skills.

My opinion is:
To be a good specialist, you should develop specific skills.

I am not sure about the word 'specific' though. I might say 'skills necessary for the profession', but I would like to keep sentences short as it is a popplet presentation and they appear under photographs.

What is your opinion?

Specific is fine.

It's better than peculiar because of the likely confusion with the more usual meaning of that word.
