Dear all,

Can you please recommend me some phonetic sites for begginers?

I want to "teach" someone the phonetic symbols like /ʃ/ and stuff.

I have started but I would like somebody with more experience to recommend me some really useful and fun stuff

games - songs

I'm going to teach an adult - a friend of mine.

Thanks a lot.

What I need is lessons plans, work sheets some games and songs for vwels and consonants. Stuff like that.

Thanks.

I wrote a couple of worksheets a while ago - though some of them are tied to a video CD that came with Market Leader Upper-Int, so they may be of limited (if any) use. I'll look them out. (But I had a minor disaster on the back-up front recently, so may have to scan in the paper copies I've kept).

But what you're looking for is presumably a source of more than one or two work-sheets. birdeen's call may have something more useful. Wait and see.

Can't thank you enough. I'll be waiting. I'm working on some sheets, though, but I need more help.

Thanks.

You'll have to wait until the w/e (at least) sorry :oops:

IT's totally ok, I'll be waiting. Thanks a lot for the reply. Be sure it's better than nothing. :up:

Something to keep you going: S&Tblurb.doc explains the idea. The two other doc files [now there are three - see PS] summarize the contents of 16 [24] 'families'.

(There are 8 jpeg files [12, but it's of academic interest as they're not attached] depicting 8 cards each, representing the two sets - one for -EI- and one for -OUGH (RBP - so no good for Am E); but I'll have to get a dispensation from Red5 to allow me to upload them.)

I haven't tried these out, so caveat emptor! ;-)

b

PS I've just added one more doc file - for -IE- sets

Thanks a lot. If you can find me songs, I'll really be so grateful. All the phonology songs on google are not free. or you can suggest me something to download; something may be not for teachers but you know that it can help (u know better than me for sure)

Thanks a gain.:up::up::up:

I've attached a png file to my last note; it shows one member of each 'family'.

No songs, I'm afraid.

When I said 'the weekend, maybe later' I had not made the requisite offerings to the god of DIY ;-) The work just sort of 'growed'.

Here are those worksheets. The set of cards concentrating on fricatives have to be cut up to form sets of three. The task is to arrange them in three 'families'.

Two of the files are tied to particular books, but you may find a use for them.

I think there are a couple more that I'll have to scan in when the dust has settled in what is now called The Study.

Good luck

I really can't thank you enough. If you have more "diphthongs" sheets, please send them.

Thanks again :up::up::up::up:

The last two, as promised. The Vowels....doc one covers only half the simple vowels, as I made it to supplement a published version that I had only half copied!

You may not be able to use the bits relating to film clips, but I've left the refs in. The scanning went a bit funny, so there's a fairly blatant patch on the vowels one. ;-)

Is that a famouse phonetic book? It seems interesting. What is the name of that book?

Thanks a lot for the attachments :up:

I don't know where I found it but I came across a free phonetics teaching program called Sephonics, it's pretty good. You might be able to find it on the internet somewhere.

Just googled it quickly, you should be able to find it, first result had a download link. It looks quite old mind but very good nonetheless. I'm sure you could use it.

Sorry. Myopic ungulate (no idea - geddit?). And you're welcome. :)

b

PS I don't think it was famous. I seem to remember (it was over 3 yrs ago) that it was quite cheaply produced - which suggests to me, with my one-time publisher's hat on, the sort of limited production budget that goes with a small print run.
