She laughed, the sound nearly breaking on a sob. She pinched the bridge of her nose. "God, I was not going to do this. Not today."

What is the meaning of bold phrase? Thank you.

The top of your nose, just before it meets your face/forehead, is the bridge. If you press on both sides of it with your fingers you can feel that it is a pressure point. Sometimes people press there to try to stop themselves from crying. I pinch the bridge of my nose sometimes to get brief relief from a bad headache.
