What does this sentence mean, please?

"Don't let me play the fool".

Does it mean:

- Don't let me be an idiot.

-Don't fool me

Not a teacher

"Play the fool" or "act the fool" means one does silly things and/or behaves in a silly way which may make people laugh. Eg "Don't play the fool again" or "stop fooling around".
