You are asking for something that does not exist in our culture. We would never, ever ask our employers for a loan.

Additionally, the language you use, like "for your sympathetic consideration," would be considered overly flowery and sound absurd in a business setting.

Therefore, you need the write the letter the way it sounds right to you, because nothing about it will sound right to me.

However, you definitely need to use lower-case letters for purchase, refrigerator, and repaint.

It is not the way I would say it but it sounds fine. Perhaps it is the way you write a letter in your country. I agree that you need to do it in your own style.

We could ask for an advance, though- is that done in the States?

It's certainly not common in corporate America. It may be more common in small businesses. The only time I've ever seen it is in movies set several decades ago, when men still wore hats.
