Hello

A person wears a cassock and a clerical collar; he has a rosary in his hands. We know that the person isn't a real priest, we know he only plays a priest. But when asked he says he is a priest. He claims that he is a priest.

And now we say:

1. The person poses as a priest.
2. He poses as a priest.
3. He poses as a priest. OR He poses himself as a priest.
4. He posed as a priest. OR He posed himself as a priest.

Is the word himself necessary here, or it is wrong an that word shouldn't be there under no circumstances.

Thank you for your help.

'He is posing as a priest.'

He is impersonating a priest.

One thing is certain - this guy is not a priest. ;-)

He is impersonating a priest.

OK, thank you bhaisahab, but what about my sentences with 'to pose as sb'? I found this expression in my dictionary, what is wrong with it that you suggest to impersonate sb?

'He has disguised himself as a priest.'

Not a teacher.

bhai has nailed it: impersonating.

Impersonating a police officer is a criminal offence in most countries.

Posing as a police officer is something an actor might do to trick someone as a surprise at a birthday/stag/hen party.
