I am confused with the degrees of adjectives used in the following sentences. I found these sentences as the examples of Present Unreal conditional sentences.

1, If she were rich she would buy a BMW car. (1st degree of adjective i.e. rich)
2, If I were taller I would play basketball. (Comparative degree of adjective i.e. taller)

Please teach me the rules to clear my confusion.

Regards
