This is my first attempt to write an essay according to the suggested structure.
This is the plan I used.
Introduction structure:
1. A broad background statement
2. Rephrased question prompt
3. A thesis statement
Body paragraph structure:
1. A topic sentence
2. Supporting sentences with examples
3. Additional supporting sentences
4. A final sentence to summarize my idea
5. The conclusion
"Some people think that the government is wasting money on the arts and that this money could be better spent elsewhere. To what extent do you agree with this view?"
For a lot of people the arts is a waste of money, as statistics usually show low employment rates. Although many would agree that the arts might also be associated with low salaries, I think the arts does have a greater impact on a nation's development.
In this essay I will discuss why the arts are as important as science subjects.
For example, studying literature and history enables us to learn more about our past and culture. Arts subjects have always been considered important and culturally enriching. Without studyig history we will never be able to understand what our ancestors went through centuries ago. Studying history is a great way to connect to the past and feel part of it. Even when we are studying our native language we can see the influence of other countries in the form of borrowed words that in most cases were introduced by invaders throughout our country's history.
If history connects us to the past and learning languages gives as an idea of what the spoken language of our ancestors was like, literature broadens our horizons, develops analytical skills, improves speaking and writing skills that might come in handy later in life. When I read a book I feel as if each character as well as the setting of the story come to life, so to me a written story is as real as the world around me. I believe our imagination is a wonderful tool that should be developed at an early age and improved by reading. Instead of considering the arts a waste of money, the goverment should focus on the mentioned fields more and never underestimate creative minds.
