Is that supposed to be the same as in recall toyota cars with stress on the first syllable?

I don't know if this is a BrE vs AmE difference, but in my opinion "recall" would be pronounced the same way in both contexts - with the stress on the second syllable. Re-call.

:up: What you do with an ambassador or a car is /ri:'kɔ:l/. What you do with a childhood memory is /rɪ'kɔ:l/ it. The stress changes to make them both into a noun, with the same first syllable.

Toyota announced a /'ri:kɔ:l/.
He has total /'ri:kɔ:l/. [I've also heard 'total /rɪ'kɔ:l/, but not 'total /'rɪkɔ:l/]

(1) I think that many (most?) Americans prefer:

Country X has decided to reCALL its ambassador.

Y Automobile Company has issued a REcall of its cars.

Apologies for my having missed out the use of the word as a noun. My reply only referred to the verb (to recall the ambassador, to recall the cars). However, of course, as the others have said, "Toyota have announced a recall".
