Another practice that started long ago is that sex should only be used for reproduction and that sex for any other reason is a sin, which means that birth control is not allowed. Although the Catholic Church is named, there are many other religions that support this also (Lecture 1). I personally view sex as a good thing. It has many positive qualities, one major thing being stress relief. I am a lucky guy whose wife still enjoys sex also, and if we weren’t allowed birth control, we wouldn’t be able to afford all the children we would be making. I’m not trying to discredit the Catholic Church, but another reason that I disagree with them and their policies is because of the way they viewed abortion back in the 13th century. At first they allowed abortion as a form of birth control up until a certain number of days depending on if it was a boy or girl. Nowadays, they don’t allow abortions at all (Greenberg, Bruess and Conklin, 2011, pg 17). I’m not saying that abortion should be a normal form of birth control; I just think they should allow some form of birth control so that parents aren’t making an enormous amount of children that they can’t afford to take care of.
