"Finally, at around six in the morning, Igor admitted defeat and gallantly offered to drive the disappointed girl back to Wellsville in our still-instrument-filled truck. He dropped her off and then, coincidentally near the Heater, where all of this began, he claimed that a deer ran in front of him, and in an effort to avoid it, he swerved off the road and landed on a concrete abutment. The truck’s undersides were ripped apart as it skidded loudly onto the concrete piling, and just before it crashed into a telephone pole, the twelve-foot aluminum box carrying our precious gear was slashed open by trees and torn partly off the truck bed".
"Rainbow In The Dark", Ronnie James Dio.
Could you explain the last sentnce in other words. Does "landed on a concrete abutment" mean the car jumped on the abutment? Sounds strange. What does "kidded loudly onto the concrete piling" mean in other words? How did he crash in a telephone pole if he crashed into a abutment. Sorry for confusion.
