What I want to ask is: Shouldn't it be impressive, large buildings instead? I have studied the adjectives order, and I know that observation/opinion (impressive) precedes size (large).

I think it depends on the priority the writer gives to the attributes. In this case, the writer proritises "impressive" by placing it in front, which is logical because "being impressive" is the quality that is more likely to strike a beholder first.
