Would you be kind enough to give me your considered opinion concerning the interpretation of the word in bold in the following sentences?

The Seeker was standing at my elbow.

stand at one’s elbow = stand close by someone

Never heard that expression before. Here, (US) we would say "stand at elbow's distance."
