Hello there! Would you mind explaining the meaning of this sentence? We are looking forward to this new year which stretches out ahead of us.

This part of the sentence 'stretches out ahead of us'. Does it mean that we have a long year in front of us?

It's a manner of speaking. It means we have a year in front of us. Which we are looking forwad to (anticipating).
