When I was in Australia, I STUDIED/HAD STUDIED in a local high school.

I'm inclined to use the simple past tense, 'studied'.
Would it be incorrect if the past perfect tense is used instead? I'm wondering if there be any difference in meaning.

Thank you!

Say:

While I was in Australia I studied at a local high school.

The past perfect doesn't work there.
