Can I use their to refer to the members of the team?

I would use "its" instead of "their" as team is singular.

The support team is doing its best to solve the problem.

This sentence uses "their" when you mention the team members.

The members of the support team are doing their best to solve the problem.

I use "are" with "team" sometimes but have been told it's not exactly correct. In real life, you can use both. In your academic papers, it depends on your teacher.
