sweater or pullover?

I am wondering if these are pictures of sweaters or pullovers?

This is very much a personal matter. Different people use different names.
For me:
#1 is a woolly pullie, the term used in the services for a 'pullover, woolen'.
#2 is a pullover or, possibly, a jumper.
#3 is a sweater.

For me pullover is the one in the middle. The rest are sweaters....

I agree that the sleevelss things are pullovers.

I also feel that thinnish ones with sleeves are pullovers. The Oxford ALD gives the definition of pullover as 'a knitted woollen or cotton piece of clothing for the upper part of the body..', so they, unlike Rover and me, don't know about the sleeveless variety.

Incidentally, had I not played around in uniform, I would have called #1 a sweater.

For me, in AmE, they're all pullovers, but only the 2nd and 3rd are sweaters. The 1st one seems to be lighter in weight and not worn over another garment, therefore, not a sweater. The 2nd is also called a V-neck sweater. Without sleeves, they're sleeveless sweaters or pullovers. Of course, another dozen posters may have a dozen more opinions, as we're talking about what we call them.

In AmE, photos one and three could be called "sweaters" or, more specifically, "pullovers." The pink, grey and black diamond-patterned shirt seems to have a fleece lining and appears to be a sweatshirt, not a sweater. However, it could still be described as a "pullover"; the word "pullover" is used to differentiate between shirt styles that are buttoned or zippered up the front and isn't limited to sweaters.

And, Rique, sorry to contradict you but I don't think that by definition a sweater is a garment that is worn over another garment. Turtleneck sweaters, for example, are worn as solo garments, as are pullovers sometimes. Traditionally a sweater is a garment made of knitted, crocheted or woven yarn.

They're all types of jumpers to me.

I generally use jumper too, though I could also use pullover/sweater for any of them.
