[Vocabulary] swimming cap vs swimming hat

Is this the same thing?
 
In AmE there is no such thing/name as "swimming hat" for a head covering to be used when swimming.
 
As far as I can recall from the days when such a thing was required, it was always a "swimming cap" in the UK.

True, but if you change to 'swimming headgear' or 'swimming headwear' you see very similar pictures.
