Synonym for commuting regularly to non-work places.

Is there a 1-word-synonym to commute for places that're not work but still require regular, kinda lengthy back and forth travelling?

If not, how do you feel about just using "commute" for that as a neologism? Does that feel awkward to you?

Given that the definition of "commute" is "travel regularly between home and your place of work", I wouldn't try using it for anything else.

Driving to the gym which is at the other side of town.
By the way, I go to the gym to have a great body. That in turn enables me to have access to a relationship, which is a major life goal of mine, making the gym visits feel like an obligation to me rather than a recreational activity. I'd even argue it has some similarity with work. I don't know if that plays a role in whether the term "commute" is more viable in this situation but perhaps that's where I drew the connection.

Regardless of the situation, I consider "commuting to the gym" wrong.

I can imagine hearing "I spend most of my week shuttling back and forth between home and the gym!" It wouldn't be my first choice, though - I'd probably go with "driving/cycling/walking/going".
