Hi,

I know that there are many possible ways of saying "to die" like "to pass away", "to kick the bucket", "to snuff it", "to expire", "to depart", "to conk out", etc. Could you tell us please which words are used in the following situations:

1) in informal speech, among friends
2) in official sources of information (on TV, in newspapers, magazines and journals)

Will you please post some examples

No.

It's a very personal thing, and what one person feels may be rejected by another.

I remember when my father died, my mother and I took it in turns to phone people.

She gave the news as: X passed away this morning.
I gave it as: X died this morning.

I know. Hence my question. I'm interested in opinions of natives no matter where they're from. That's extremely important for me, even more important than what grammar books say.

Please, if possible, answer my question above about the classification of synonyms for "to die".
