1. Let's take a trip to Mexico.
2. Let's have a trip to Mexico.

#1 is quoted from a dictionary. Is #2 also acceptable to native speakers?

Which dictionary, and what word was being exemplified?
Longman Advanced American Dictionary, page 1554. Under the entry of "trip (n)."

#2 is acceptable to me, but I prefer #1.

With trip, have is common mostly when one person say to another: have a good/nice trip.
It is more common to say:
Make a trip.
Go on a trip.

'Make a trip' is not common in my experience.

I had to look it up, and I see it's reasonable in AmE. Let's see what our native AmE speakers say.

I wouldn't use number two.
