I would like to take time off work the week of August 20th (5 days). If this is not possible, may I take the week of August 27th instead. I wait for your approval.

This is how I would have written it. I'm not a teacher, so perhaps a teacher or a native speaker can confirm whether my corrections are OK (or whether the original message was fine as it was.)

It's OK as posted. But you could also say, "I await your response". To use "approval" with two possibilities would not be clear.

Assuming that the work week is Monday through Friday and the statement specifies 5 days, it would not be necessary to use "in" for the work week.

You should give your boss an explanation of why you need time off work and to say that you will set it against your holiday entitlement or take it unpaid.
