[Vocabulary] Temp,Test,Invite

Hello,
In the lesson 2 of 504 absolutely essential words book ,the temp verb has the synonym with 'test' and 'invite'
but I couldn't figure out the relations between these three verbs , And I havn't found yet any definition in dictionary.

The verbs "tempt" and "test" have entirely different meanings. There is some crossover of meaning between "tempt" and "invite", but they are certainly not synonyms.

You can tempt fate and test someone's patience by inviting them for a fight.

Are you tempting me? Are you testing my patience? Are you asking (inviting) me for a fight?

Something that tempts you may test you. Or test your willpower.
