[Vocabulary] Temp,Test,Invite

Hello,
In the lesson 2 of 504 absolutely essential words book ,the temp verb has the synonym with 'test' and 'invite'
but I couldn't figure out the relations between these three verbs , And I havn't found yet any definition in dictionary. :(

11. tempt (tempt) try to get someone to do something; test; invite

a. A banana split can tempt me to break my diet.
b. The sight of beautiful Louise tempted the bachelor* to change his mind about marriage.
c. Your offer of a job tempts me greatly.

The verbs "tempt" and "test" have entirely different meanings. There is some crossover of meaning between "tempt" and "invite", but they are certainly not synonyms.

Something that tempts you may test you. Or test your willpower.
