Is that phrase grammatically correct?

"There's one common thing that they both do and that is damaged the monarchy." 0:33

"There's one common thing that they both do and that is damage d the monarchy."
That's what she actually says.
For what it's worth, "damaged the" would sound almost (if not exactly) the same, especially at that tempo. The final "d" in "damaged" would merge with the initial "th" of "the" - that phenomenon is called elision.

NOT A TEACHER

It looks grammatically correct to me.

Does it help if I rephrase and format it like this?

"There's one common thing that they both do. That thing is damage the monarchy".

Are you suggesting that the OP's original transcription "There's one common thing that they both do and that is damaged the monarchy" is grammatically correct?

With teechar's correction, yes. I forgot to mention that.

I might be wrong, though. I'm just a glizdka, not a teacher or native speaker.

Why would you need to confirm that teechar's correction produced a grammatically correct sentence?

This is why we ask people to quote the post they're responding to. If you'd actually quoted the relevant part of teechar's post, it would have been clear what you were commenting on.

I apologize.

I thought my rephrasing of the original sentence could be useful in illustrating how the sentence works.

I'll try harder not to post unnecessarily, I promise!

Again, we're not asking you not to post. Just make sure that what you're saying hasn't been said before. The rephrasing of the original sentence was useful but the first half of your post was confusing.
