On Saturday, April 11, Bollywood Hungama reported that the 92-year-old legendary Indian singer was rushed to Breach Candy Hospital after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest.

In the first text, the article "the" has been used, while in the second text it hasn't. Can you please explain why it's so?

Thanks.

In the first, the singer's name isn't mentioned in the sentence, only the title. You can take the article as being a way of saying "the 92-year-old singer whose name is in the title".
The article could have been used in the second but it's not necessary.

Sorry. I don't understand what you are saying here. Can you please explain a bit more? Why can I not omit the article in that sentence?

Only the editor of the newspaper can omit words. Your question should be about what function the article plays.

Let me highlight the text like this:

On Saturday, April 11, Bollywood Hungama reported that the 92-year-old legendary Indian singer was rushed to Breach Candy Hospital.

If you ignore 92-year-old legendary Indian, you're left with the singer. The word singer, as a singular countable noun, requires an article, in this case the.

Now, look at the other sentence:

On April 11, 2026, [no article] 92-year-old legendary playback vocalist Asha Bhosle was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital.

If you ignore 92-year-old legendary playback vocalist, you're left with just Asha Bhosle, and as a proper noun (a name), it doesn't require an article.

I hope it makes sense.

"the 92-year-old singer whose name is in the title".
I don't understand this line. Can you please explain what you meant here?

The tile of the article you quoted from is

Asha Bhosle rushed to hospital after alarming cardiac arrest scare.

The first two words of that title name the singer.

Now, look at the other sentence:

On April 11, 2026, [no article] 92-year-old legendary playback vocalist Asha Bhosle was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital.

If you ignore 92-year-old legendary playback vocalist, you're left with just Asha Bhosle, and as a proper noun (a name), it doesn't require an article

The article sounds wrong here, as you have explained - we don't use it before names. But @emsr2d2 (post #2) said the article could have been used here. I'm confused why he/she said so.

Both of these are grammatically correct:

On April 11, 2026, 92-year-old legendary playback vocalist Asha Bhosle was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital.

On April 11, 2026, the 92-year-old legendary playback vocalist Asha Bhosle was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital.

We don't put an article directly before a name.
