The army caught up with the convoy

Is this right?

The sentence means that the army was chasing the convoy and the convoy was far then the army marched quickly until he get close to the convoy

2- Who wrote that sentence, and why?
3- "Cough up" has specific meanings, none of which I can see working here. Did you perhaps confuse it with "caught up"? Even so, why are you using the present simple tense?

It depends. Ordinarily, the past simple would be appropriate, but if, for example, you are writing a summary or a review of a story, then you might want to use the present simple. How (in what context) do you want to use that sentence? Note that you're still not using a punctuation mark at the end of your sentences.
