This is not my homework.

Which of the following sentences is/are correct?

1:-The camel can go long distance without water.
2:- The camel can go a long distance without water.

I think that generally "distance", being an uncountable noun does not take "a" before it but the phrase "a long distance" is an exception. Am I right?

Kindly enlighten me by providing answer to my problem.

1:-The camel can go long distances without water.
2:- The camel can go a long distance without water.

These two are possible. I prefer #1.

Bhaisahab, is "distance" a countable noun or is it some form of exception?

'Distance' has both countable and uncountable usages.
