Can anybody tell me the difference of the following two sentences:

1, He has often described to me how he picked up a masterpiece for a mere $50.
2, He often describes to me how he picked up a masterpiece for a mere $50.

Thanks.

Can anybody tell me the difference [STRIKE]of[/STRIKE] between the following two sentences:

1, He has often described to me how he picked up a masterpiece for a mere $50.
2, He often describes to me how he picked up a masterpiece for a mere $50.
#1 suggests that the describing started in the past and continued, at intervals, up to the present time. #2 say only that it happens regularly in the general present. There is not a great deal in difference in practice; both could be used to describe the same series of event, though only #1 would be used if the describing stopped recently.

Thank you very much!
