In this exercise I have to join the sentences using an appropriate conjunction. Are the conjunctions used correctly?
CPE Use of English. By Virginia Evans.
1. The director won't be present at the meeting. He will expect you to report back to him.
The director won't be present at the meeting, hence he will expect you to report back to him.
2. I don't want to go abroad. I'd prefer to stay in this country.
I don't want to go abroad on the grounds that I'd prefer to stay in this country.
3. He has been on a diet for two months. He still hasn't lost weight.
Although he has been on a diet for two months, he still hasn't lost weight.
4. I missed the 5 o'clock train. There is another in 5 minutes.
Even though I missed the 5 o'clock train, another one is in 5 minutes.

You haven't used a conjunction there. I assume they're looking for "He's been on a diet for two months but [he] still hasn't lost weight".
The same goes for #4.

In #1, I think they're looking for "so".
In #2, it you need "because" instead of "on the grounds that".

Can I still use "hence" in #2 and my sentence with "even though?" I am sorry I don't understand if they are OK as written.

"The director won't be present at the meeting, hence he will expect you to report back to him".
In #4 I used "even though". Should it be: "I missed the 5 o'clock train, but another one is in 5 minutes."
