The dress code at our school is too rigid and restricts individual style and preference. Furthermore, it is ridiculously outdated. Did you know that the dress code prohibits students from wearing sneakers to class? Does that sound like the twenty-first century to you? Everyone knows that students are happier and more productive when they feel good about their appearance. Corporations learned long ago that people work better when they are comfortable with their appearance, and dress codes for business are flexible. Many students have jobs and pay for their own clothes; why should the school board dictate what they can and cannot wear? Does it really matter that much if some students are a little wacky? Why do we all have to look exactly the same? Besides, the current code is nearly impossible to enforce. Teachers and administrators spend far too much time telling students to change clothes when, surely, they have more important tasks at hand.
