Which possessive pronoun would you insert here and why:

The driver must make sure that the passengers are happy with ___ manners

I am confused as ChatGPT contradicts Gemini.

You could use his or her according to the sex of the driver. Some people nowadays object to that and prefer their because it is genderless. In such cases their is singular, not plural.

I don't understand the question. What makes you think there's a 'right' pronoun? Are you asking whether a listener would think the manners are those of the driver or of the passengers collectively or of someone else?

I mean, 'The driver must make sure that the passengers are happy with their manners' would be ambiguous, wouldn't it?

I wonder why you didn't just ask that directly. Yes, it would be ambiguous. With 'their' it's not clear whose manners are being discussed. It could possibly even be that 'their' refers to either an individual or a group of individuals outside the text—neither the driver nor any of the passengers.

However, given our knowledge of typical relationships between drivers and passengers, and considering the sentence such as it is completely out of context, it's much more likely that we'd interpret the manners to be the driver's.

Take more care with your punctuation.

If you must use that kind of sentence, try "... happy with his/her manners".
