the perfect present with “in+a period of time”

I wonder if my second sentence is correct. I mean whether the perfect present could be used with “in+a period of time”.

Yes, the present perfect is the right tense for the sentence.

It has become a big factory in just a few years = It has become a big factory in the most recent few years (the idea includes the present)
It became a big factory in just a few years = It went from being a small repair shop to a big factory in a relatively short period of time, but that period of time is well in the past.
