Two factors weigh heavily against the effectiveness of scientific research in industry. One is the general atmosphere of secrecy in which it is carried out, the other the lack of freedom of the individual research worker.

Hi, everybody!
Could you please tell me whether I could change the placement of 'individual' as the following without changing the meaning of this sentence? Thanks a million! :)

One is the general atmosphere of secrecy in which it is carried out, the other the lack of individual freedom of the research worker.

I don't think there is any great change in meaning but the original sentence perhaps puts the emphasis on the worker while the second puts the emphasis on the freedom of the worker.

Nor would there be a change of meaning if the word individual were omitted.
