1. The school is between the masjid and the hospital.
2. The new garden is in the middle of the city.

Are the the words in italics adverbial phrases?

What's a "masjid"?

Muslim scholars advise us to use the word 'masjid' instead of 'mosque'. It is because they think 'mosque' is derived from 'mosquito'.

Okay, masjid is one of those words in Arabic/Malay adopted in English, but I doubt many English speakers would know it.
I doubt the English speakers here know what imam, muezzin, qibla and mimbar (all adopted as English words) are about. You would have problem in making yourself understood if you use them liberally.

I've seen imam plenty of times. Also mosque and masjid (although less often). The others I am not familiar with at all.
