[Grammar] (The) tourism industry - article

Is it correct to say THE tourism industry? Or should I omit an article?
 
It's generally used with the article.

It's probably correct to include the article, but with a full sentence would let us know for sure.
 
"The tourism industry is one the most important part of the economy as it has a direct influence on the society and the environment."
 
There are quite a few problems with that sentence. Can you see what they might be?
