Hi, everyone. Is 'work abilities' the correct word choice here? Also, do I need the pronoun 'their'? Thanks!

With [STRIKE]their [/STRIKE]work abilities being the same, a black person has to work much harder than a white person to climb the corporate ladder.

I'd start the sentence A Black person with equivalent skills ….

Thanks. I have another question. I feel 'white one' doesn't sound right. But why is that?

A Black person with equivalent skills has to work much harder than a white person/one to climb the corporate ladder.
