There has been (a) lack of awareness of global warming.

Should I say "a lack of" or just "lack of"? Thanks
 
I think the answer is "lack of"
maybe "a lack of" used in affirmative sentence

Agreed. You would always have "a lack of" something.

The opposite is "a surfeit of" (you have too much of it).
