Reading "Interview with the Vampire" right now, there's this sentence - "I, dull, catatonic, gave him some miserable excuse - thinking only of Claudia, of the agent, of imminent disaster."

Spoiler for the story: he talks about being anxious that Claudia is planning to kill someone, but I'm not sure what does "the agent" mean in here? There are no agents :) Can agent mean something like "person that is about to do some impactful action"?
