to fake + ing form or infinitive?

The verb to fake is followed by the ing form or the infinitive?

e.g. I fake being sick.
I fake to be sick.
 
I found a noun after fake (it means to pretend that you have a feeling or illness), so I think the first one is correct. I fake being sick.
 
"I fake being sick" is possible. "I fake to be sick" is not.
