1) To stop moose and squirrel
(Does it mean to stop whining?)
2) A flight of poetic fancy
(To dream about something unrealistic).

Are these considered slangs?

The general meaning would be to finally defeat your nemesis.

2. Yes. "Flight of fancy" is the usual phrase.
