[Grammar] to talk to or with sb?

Dear teachers,
I have been using the both 'to talk and to talk with' since I started to learn English. But suddenly last day one of my friend said to me that 'to talk with' is incorrect and the correct one is 'to talk to'. I am now really confused about it. And another thing is I have also seen it used on this forum itself. I want to make this clear. Please comment.

Sorry I didn't give any context. I just want to know the two prepositions 'to and with' can be used with 'to talk'.

In British English, we normally talk to other people, I believe that American English prefers with.

Sorry I didn't give any context. I just want to know the two prepositions 'to and with' can be used with 'to talk'.

In AmE, both are equally acceptable. There may be slight difference in meaning, but it is not very important.
