This is not my homework.

If this sentence were like "Dickens was a novelist and AN/NO ARTICLE essayist", I believe there would be a one time use of article and it would be correct to say "Dickens was a novelist and essayist".

But here there is some change in the structure of the sentence, so I am not sure. Kindly help me to find the correct sentence out of the following.

1:- Dickens is famous as a novelist and an essayist.
2:- Dickens is famous as a novelist and essayist.

Thank you in advance.

2. is more natural.

Bhaisahab, is sentence 1 also correct?

Yes. If it had been wrong, bhai would have said so.

When people say that something is more natural, they don't necessarily mean that the alternative is wrong, but the natural form is (much) more common. Sometimes a form may technically be correct, but very few people would use it. It is generally a good idea to go for the form that is correct and natural.
