Hello.

Would a native speaker ever use "very much money" instead of "a lot"?
"He has very much money."

We tend to use "much" in the negative. For example:

He doesn't have much money.

There are plenty of alternatives to "a lot".

a considerable amount
quite a bit
loads (of)
loads and loads (of)
a bunch

If you want to use "much" you might say "He has much much much much money." (That would be used for humorous effect.)

Another one (for money): megabucks.

Let's keep things simple. Follow this rule:

He has very much money. :cross:
He doesn't have very much money. :tick:

"He has very much money."

In the context of the sentence you quoted, no. However, the answer to your standalone question is "Yes".

I don't have very much money. :tick:
I don't have a lot of money. :tick:
