Hello,

Can anybody help me to understand if the roll in the context below means step/gait (rolling step)?

"As it chanced, there was nobody of important in the cabaret. Frédéric, with his hearty voice and his virile roll, more of a dance than a walk, easily dominated the company."

The Dream Circean by Aleister Crowley, 1909

Thank you very much.

The "more of a dance than a walk" should tell you that it's about how he gets around (as you deduced).

Giving that it is part of dominating the company, it might be a swagger.
