What do you say in English in this situation?

e.g. you are a client and you want to meet the manager and go to his office. This is a rule that first you have to talk to the secretary to ask the manager' permission and then meet him. you can't go there without his permission.

In this situation they write a note on the door that please,.................. .

Thanks

I'm afraid that there is no such rule; every situation is different. It's not really a question of needing permission. The manager should be open to meeting his client.
Not all managers have secretaries. The easiest thing would be to phone the manager (or secretary) and make an appointment.
