At this sentence, 'large' is mean like kind of " I'm going to speak in a knowledgeable way."?....

These chapters are for children, I shall try to make the words large enough to command respect. In the hope that you are listening, and that you have confidence in me, I will proceed.

Hi, and welcome to the forum. :hi:

It doesn't really say "words large". It says "make the words large enough". Does that help?

What is the name of the book?

You study English. The book teaches it.

This is important: what is the name and author of the book? Forum rules require that you provide this information for everything you quote. If the book's cover doesn't list the author's name, tell us that.

But in that case, what does "I shall try to make the words large enough to command respect"[STRIKE]is what's meaning[/STRIKE] mean?
What words is he going to use?
He's going to use big words so his readers will respect him.

Something to keep in mind EUNJJUNG, when reading Mark Twain, is that he is almost always joking. He was a professional joker. In other words, making jokes is what he did for a living.

oh.. I'm sorry
It's my first time writing.
I didn't know I had to use that information.
The source of my excerpts is "Style lesson,"by Joseph M.Williams.

It suggests that big words impress people.
