Today I picked up the trash in my neighborhood. I've been doing this for a few years. I pick only plastics because they're not bio-degradable. I wrote a sentence to express the idea:

What I'm doing today is to pick up the trash of our neighborhood, especailly plastics because they're not bio-degradable.

Is my sentence natural?

My suggestion:

"What I'm doing today is picking up the trash in our neighbourhood."

I might be wrong, but plastics sounds like types of plastic. Perhaps: plastic trash.

You've said you pick only that. Especially doesn't work, then. It would suggest you pick up all the trash, but are extra careful with plastic trash.

To me "...plastics...they're.. " is perfectly acceptable because there are many types of plastics. Which kinds may be recyclable varies widely from place to place. Only a few kinds are biodegradable.
