Hello,

-I was left wondering whether where we are today could be said to be progress.

-I don't care whether who you love (or not).

-I don't have any idea whether where you will go.

What if we put 'whether' in the sentence like those before 'where - when - who'? Are those grammatically OK?

Thanks...

-I don't care [STRIKE]whether[/STRIKE] who you love [STRIKE](or not)[/STRIKE].

-I don't have any idea [STRIKE]whether[/STRIKE] where you will go.

Thanks for the answer, but I couldn't understand why number 1 is OK, and the others not. :-:)-(

The underlying direct questions in these sentences are;

1. Could where we are today be said to be progress? I was left wondering about the answer.
2. Who(m) do you love? I don't care about the answer,
3. Where will you go? I have no idea of the answer.

If the underlying question begins with a wh- word, then that word itself is what is needed, not 'whether'.
