[Grammar] Which one is correct and Why?

Hi friends, I am new to this forum. I am an English Literature student from India. . Nice to meet you all.

Could anyone tell which one sentence is correct and why?

I saw the blind man crossing the busy road without any help.
I saw the blind man was crossing the busy road without any help.

However, if you add "that", the second is usable.

Why the second sentence that the "was" do not need?

He saw the man was crossing the road = In the past, he saw a man and than happened at the same time that the man was crossing the road, so it was using "past continue tense" here.
Why does it incorrect?

Am I wrong? Not a teacher.

I would accept "He saw the blind man was crossing the road" but only on the basis that the writer/reader understands that the word "that" is implied after "saw".

Thank You. Use of "Was" is unnecessary but can using it make the sentence incorrect? I meant using it without saying "that".

It is better not to use 'was'.
You saw something (noun).
The noun is " the blind man crossing the road"(an action).
