Hi everyone,

English pronunciation can be tricky, especially when words don’t sound how they’re spelled! (Worcestershire, Colonel, Debris—I’ve struggled with these! 😅)

To make things easier, I created a free tool where you can type any English word and instantly hear how it’s pronounced in different accents (American, British, Australian, etc.).

👉 Try it here: https://pronounce-web-j2m6.vercel.app/

I’d love to hear your feedback! What English words have you found hardest to pronounce? Let’s share and learn together! 👇

Welcome to the forum.

I've had a go with a few words on your website. So far, mostly good. However, the second word I chose was "thorough". The given definition is an obsolete definition of the word as a noun. There's no mention of the usual definition of the word, which is an adjective.

I have some questions:
1. Where did the recordings of the pronunciations come from?
2. Where did the definitions come from?
3. How does your website differ from Forvo?

The pronunciation of the first three words I tried was fine, but I was given very uncommon noun definitions of words that are almost always adjectives. Not helpful.

I will definitely work on making the definitions correct. Thanks for the honest feedback. I didn't know that Forvo existed.

Please note my corrections above. If you're going to run a website aimed at helping people with their English, make sure that you produce correct written English yourself at all times.

Are you asking us to comment on the language used in post #5?

I made corrections on the definitions part, if you give it another try you'll see the difference.

I don't agree with you at all. I am just a learner, not the one translating the words on the website.

Well, on this forum, we expect you to use correct written English to the best of your ability. On that basis, you need to take note of our corrections and our advice.
Always capitalise the word "I".
End every sentence with an appropriate closing punctuation mark.

The reason I think it's important that you show a good grasp of English on here is that this is the place you've chosen to advertise and showcase your website. If learners read this thread, they might initially be impressed with the website but when they see that we're having to make corrections to the general English in your posts, they might wonder about the quality of your website.

ok, I understood your point. Thanks.

ok OK. I understood your point. Thanks.
Note that at the start of a sentence, you can write "OK" or "Okay". Anywhere else in a sentence you can write "OK" or "okay". Both "Ok" and "ok" are always wrong.

OK.

I'm just a slow learner. Sorry.

Remember to write complete sentences on the forum.

There's no need to apologise. Simply slow down - look at our corrections and read our advice very carefully before adding another post to a thread.
By the way did the website became more helpful after the changes I made ?

The definitions of "thorough" as an adjective are now there so yes, for that word at least, it's more helpful.

I note that you have not yet answered questions 1 and 2 in post #2. Please do so.

The definitions come from a dictionary API and the audio comes from Google text to speech API. I have checked out Forvo and my application has a few advantages over it:
1. Instant audio pronuncaition.
2. Multiple accents unlike Forvo which relies on user submitted audio which might not have the desired accent.
3. Works without logging in.
